Recent Rogue Trojans Imitating "My Computer"
Sep 30
Recently we have seen an increase in users becoming infected by web popups that closely resemble the "My Computer" window in WindowsXP. This appears to be loaded from an advertising service which puts any site that leases add space to this service at risk for potentially infecting your machine.
This false "My Computer" window can be ifentified as having the Internet Explorer icon at the top left of the window. It also states that it has found infections on your hard drives. Infections will be reported in your antivirus, never in your My Computer window.
This can be avoided by having an effective antivirus such as Eset Nod32 or an effectively trained popup blocker; however, if you find yourself faced with this popup and have no protection there are 2 common ways to avoid infecting the machine:
-Press the power button on the machine to initiate a shutdown.
OR
-Press Control+Alt+Delete, select the processes tab, Select Iexplorer.exe from the list, select End Task.
This should stop the infection from infecting your machine.
